When the author approached me to design the cover of his new book, a beginners guide  to cryptic crosswords he had a very open mind as to how the design would look.

After looking at cover designs of similar books the one thing that stood out was how dull most of them were with predictable black and white crossword designs.

So as departure from the expected I went for a slightly more abstracted design that was very bright and vibrant to help really catch the readers eye.
